Elettra is an international multidisciplinary laboratory operated by Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A. as a user facility, featuring a 2.4 GeV, third-generation synchrotron light source and a variety of support laboratories. The extremely high quality of the machine and beamlines has set new performance records and has been producing results of great scientific interest. A free-electron laser (FEL) based, fourth generation source - FERMI@Elettra - is currently under construction. See http://www.elettra.trieste.it/FERMI/ for more information.

Job Description: The control system of FERMI@Elettra is currently under construction. It consists of several computers distributed along the facility that interface with the different equipment. A number of consoles allow remote operation of the accelerator and experiments. State-of-art hardware and software technologies are adopted. The successful candidate will work in the development of the control and data acquisition systems of FERMI@Elettra. In particular, she/he will analyze the requirements, develop and successively implement software applications for interfacing and integrating the diverse facility equipment and instrumentation in the control system.

Qualifications: Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  1. Linux operating system
  2. C/C++ programming
  3. Distributed computer systems
  4. Electronic laboratory instrumentation

Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience in the development of Linux device drivers and real-time software. Knowledge of the Tango control system software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TANGO) will be appreciated.

Good oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to work productively in a team are essential. A working knowledge of the Italian language is desirable, but is not required.

Contract type and salary will be commensurate with previous experience and qualifications. The selection process will continue until a suitable candidate is found.
