Reaching Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste from Venice airport (copy)

Public transport

Unfortunately, there is no direct public transport connection from Venice airport to Trieste. The only way to get to Trieste is with the combination bus - train - bus.

Step 1: bus from the airport to Venezia Mestre railway station.

Take the ATVO coach, in the direction towards Venezia-Mestre. The bus stop can be found just in front of the arrivals terminal. Tickets can be purchased online at the ATVO website or at the airport. The ATVO ticket office is located in the arrivals hall, box n. 80 and n. 81, and opens from 8.00 to 24.00. Tickets can also be bought from the 24-hour automatic ticket machine located outside the airport, in the ATVO departure bays. Ticket fare is € 5 (one way). Ride takes 20 min approximately, depending on traffic.

In alternative, there are local buses connecting Venice airport to Venezia Mestre railways station. Bus N. 15 (ACTV).  Buses depart roughly every 30 minutes, check the timetable directly on the company's website.Ticket fare: €5 (one way). Ride takes 40 min approximately. Tickets can be purchased at the airport's ticket office in the arrivals hall, open from 8.10 to 22.00.

Step 2: train from Venezia Mestre railway station to Trieste.

The train stops at Trieste Centrale (last stop). Check Trenitalia website for timetables and fares (in the range € 10-15 for second class). Ride takes 1h 50' approximately.

Step 3: From downtown Trieste to the Elettra Lab (Basovizza).

Once in Trieste, you have to continue to Basovizza by bus of by taxi.

Science Bus

The Science bus is a shuttle service that can take you directly to Trieste or Basovizza. This service must be booked at least 48 hours before your arrival / departure. Tickets in the range € 80 per person (check the Science Bus website for the exact fares). Note that a special discount is available for Elettra users. Please contact the users' office for a voucher. The ride takes 1h 30 min, depending on traffic.

Taxi

Stop is located outside the passengers’ terminal. Fare: To Trieste downtown around € 180. Ride takes 1h 30' approximately.
