ELI-Beamlines and Elettra: Memorandum of Understanding

On December 2nd, the Italian Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and the Institute of Physics of Czech Academy of Science signed an agreement to lay down the foundations of their collaborative efforts in the implementation of ELI-Beamlines project.

The ELI-Beamlines project, a high-energy repetition-rate laser pillar of the ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) facility, will be an international facility for both academic and applied research, stated to provide user capability by the beginning of 2017.
The main objective of the ELI-Beamlines Project is the delivery of ultra-short high-energy pulses for the generation and applications of high-brightness X-ray sources and accelerated particles.
Signing the Memorandum of Understanding, Elettra and the Institute of Physics of Czech Academy of Science agree to cooperate on topics relevant for the ELI- Beamlines project, in particular concerning technical requirements, science and technology information and to promote joint leveraged program development.

ELI - Beamlines is one of the three facilities under implementation that will be part of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI)

The ELI project is part of a European plan to build a new generation of large research facilities selected by the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) and is based on strong international collaborations between Czech Republic, Hungary, and Romania.

Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is member of the ELI Delivery Consortium International Association, founded in April 2013 as an international non-profit association under Belgium Law, to promote the sustainable development of ELI.
