Agreement between Elettra and IPM Teheran (Press review)

A Collaboration Agreement between Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A. (Elettra), Research Centre in AREA Science Park, and the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM Teheran) of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been signed today, Friday March 11, at the seat of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region.

The agreement was signed in presence of the President of Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region Debora Serracchiani, the Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran Vahid Ahmadi, and his Advisor, Reza Mansouri.

Alfonso Franciosi, President and CEO of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and Javad Rahighi, Director of the Iranian Light Source Facility (ILSF) and Professor at the IPM Teheran, signed and explained the agreement.

The collaboration provides for training of Iranian personnel at the Elettra synchrotron radiation source, as well as the design of an Iranian beamline and experimental station optimized to perform X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiments for the study of the atomic structure of materials. The beamline will be installed at Elettra and later transferred to ILSF.

This investment in Trieste will enable the training of scientific and technical Iranian staff that, in cooperation with Elettra personnel, might support the construction and commissioning of the Iranian Light Source Facility (ILSF), the new research infrastructure that will employ synchrotron radiation in the characterization and treatment of materials. The ILSF will be realized at Qazvin, about 150 km North-West of Tehran.
