IPAC 2012

From 20 to 25 May, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, hosted the International Particle Accelerator Conference 2012 (IPAC 12).

Elettra’s delegation included Michele Svandrlik, Giuseppe Penco and Eugenio Ferrari, who introduced the FERMI project with an oral presentation (M. Svandrlik, “Status of the FERMI@Elettra Project”); an electronic poster – a format reserved to a very small number of contributions (G. Penco, “Time Jitter Measurements in Presence of a Magnetic Chicane in the FERMI@Elettra Linac”); and a poster in the section dedicated to students who were offered a participation grant (E. Ferrari, “Electron-beam Optimization Studies for the FERMI@Elettra Free-electron Laser”). Additionally, Gerardo D’Auria presented two posters on the X-band system. All presentations related to FERMI were met with a great deal of interest, and all of our presentations received excellent reviews. FERMI thus achieved a high degree of visibility in the international accelerator community, strengthened by the pioneering role we are acknowledged to have played in the history of free-electron lasers, as highlighted on this occasion in the talk reviewing the future of FELs by Hans Braun, director of SwissFEL.

Kyma, a Sincrotrone Trieste spin-off,  participated in the “industry exhibition” with a stand. IPAC events are the main venue for presenting major existing and future international accelerator projects, and thus provide an excellent opportunity for industry representatives to showcase their products to a technically proficient audience.

Official IPAC 2012 data show that the number of participants exceeded 1,300.
