Minister Profumo visits the new FERMI@Elettra free electron laser (Press review)

“I was sincerely impressed with the facilities of Sincrotrone Trieste, and particularly the new FERMI@Elettra facility and its positive impacts on international collaboration and development”.These were the words of the Minister of Education, Universities, and Research Francesco Profumo at the end of his visit to the Laboratorio Elettra, where he was welcomed by the president of Sincrotrone Trieste Carlo Rizzuto and its CEO Alfonso Franciosi.

Accompanied by the new president of Area Science Park Adriano De Maio, vice-president Roberto della Marina, councillor Paola Secchiero and general director Enzo Moi, the Minister visited the experimental room of FERMI@Elettra, one of only four free electron lasers in the world for the dynamic analysis of materials and the development of nanoscience. “This research infrastructure – explained Rizzuto – was designed and built in collaboration with the international scientific community and funded in part by a loan from the European Investment Bank, with European guarantees”.
