On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, His Excellency Monsignor Enrico Trevisi, Bishop of Trieste, and Secretary Don Angelo Almondo visited Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste.

Welcomed by Professor Alfonso Franciosi, President and CEO of Elettra, with an introductory presentation on Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, the Bishop continued his visit to the experimental halls of Elettra and FERMI with Marco Marazzi, Vice-General Coordinator, and Maja de’Simoni, Head of Communication Activity.

Researchers Alessandra Gianoncelli, Nicola Demitri, and Filippo Bencivenga provided Monsignor Trevisi with an overview of the capabilities of the light generated by Elettra and FERMI. They emphasized the techniques involved and highlighted the potential of synchrotron light as a source of ideas and solutions to address current challenges.

During the visit we focused on the role of science as a tool to disseminate knowledge and the importance of scientific diplomacy as a means to achieve peace. Bishop Trevisi expressed appreciation for the open science model, through which researchers from around the world can conduct research based on the merit and potential impact of their ideas.
