On Saturday, 17 February 2024, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste organised a special event dedicated to an all-female audience. About fifteen women representing colleagues working at Elettra shared their professional and personal experiences as women involved in scientific research and research support professions to 45 women and girls, aged between 17 and 73, who registered for the event.

Laura Badano, Wiebke Bronsch, Ilaria Carlomagno, Maja de'Simoni, Paola Di Pietro, Laura Foglia, Fatima Matroodi, Cristina Modolo, Angela Montanaro and Cristina Pasotti shared their educational backgrounds and career choices with the visitors. The visit continued with talks on the history and organisation of Elettra, the functioning of the two accelerators, the techniques used in the experimental stations and how to access the centre. Finally, in two groups, they visited part of the Elettra and FERMI experimental halls, parts of the ring and the Linac and some of the experimental stations.

This unique initiative falls within the context of the "International Day for Women and Girls in Science" established by the United Nations in 2015 and is an opportunity taken to promote gender equality and help ensure that women and girls have equal opportunities to access and participate in science. By providing inspiration for women and girls aspiring to pursue careers in scientific research, the event is a component of the institutional Gender Equality Plan (GEP) activities undertaken by Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste to promote diversity and inclusion in science.
