From 11 to 15 March 2024, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste was proud to host the HERCULES 2024 European School as a partner facility. Following the successful experiences of past editions, 20 students were admitted to the laboratory and spent a week interacting closely with their teachers.

The school's program included both theoretical lectures and practical tutorial sessions, aimed at providing students not only with general knowledge of the techniques but also with direct experience in conducting an experiment with the Elettra synchrotron and the FERMI free-electron laser. In this way, students learned how various techniques are implemented at Elettra and FERMI, considering the specific characteristics of our light sources and the expertise of our researchers gained over 30 years of activity.

Organized by ESRF, the HERCULES school aims at delivering the highest level of training for students, postdoctoral researchers, and scientists using neutron and synchrotron radiation in varied disciplines, ranging from chemistry, physics, and materials science to biology and geoscience.

A group of young students from HERCULES shared their experiences in a video recounting their week at Elettra.
