Recent results on Auger resonant Raman spectroscopy of free atoms and molecules

Svante Svensson
Deptartment of Physics Uppsala University-SWEDEN

Abstract
Results from electron spectroscopy research at the Swedish National Synchtrotron Radiation Laboratory MAX will be presented. The Auger Resonant Raman Effect will be reviewed and recent results concerning detuning of the excitation energy from the nominal resonance energy will be discussed. The application of these results to studies of ultra-fast chemical dissociation processes and to ultra-fast electron transfer processes will be discussed. One way of describing the process is in terms of a "core hole clock", that may be manipulated via detuning. An outline will be given of the build-up of a new undulator beamline at MAX II (BL-411). This beamline is optimized for molecular physics, studies of liquids and thin films.
