Design, realization and measurements of RF devices for particle accelerators

Luca Ficcadenti
INFN - Roma (Italy)

Abstract
I will review my research activity in the design, construction and commissioning of RF devices for state-of-the-art particle accelerator, such as high brightness electron linac as well as circular and linear hadron machines. I have taken part to R&D of normal conducting or superconducting devices operating at frequency ranging from UHF band (500 MHz) to X band (11 GHz) and working at energies from few MeV to multi TeV. I will discuss in particular some issues concerning novel CRAB cavities, RF deflectors, high brightness electron guns, C-band HOM free traveling wave structures and low energy proton acceleration; all these devices are of interest in near future accelerators or in the upgrade programs of existing ones. Such broad experience helped me in developing deep competences in the electromagnetism applied to the design of particle accelerator devices using modern simulation approach (e.g. integrated electro-mechanical analysis) as well as bench measurements (e.g. bead pull techniques for tuning).
