Coherent THz diagnostics at FLASH and around

Bernhard Schmidt
DESY-Germany

Abstract
Observation and measurement of coherent radiation from compressed electron bunches became a valuable and complementary tool to measure their bunch length and longitudinal structure. The wavelength range of interest extends over more than 2 decades from the few THz regime almost up to the visible. While integrating monitors are useful for robust relative monitors and feed-back systems, broad-band spectrometry allows to detailed information about the current profile. In this talk, I will present the present the "state of the art" devices operated at FLASH and their benefits and drawbacks. Furthermore some recent developments in view of even shorter bunches (especially from plasma based acceleration) and less charge will be presented.
