The beamline for magnetodynamical studies at the FERMI FEL
 

The advent of free-electron-lasers (FEL) represents a groundbreaking advancement for innovative time resolved and pump-probe magneto-optic spectroscopies disclosing new experimental strategies to study emerging magneto optical phenomena and the underlying physics.
In this context, the MagneDyn project, now in commissioning on the full coherent-variable polarization soft X-ray FERMI@ Elettra FEL, will pave the road for uncovering the dynamics of the transient magnetization sensitivity to the angular momentum associated with the spins, the low-energy valence excitations, the phonons and the spin-excitations is required.
This can be achieved by replacing in conventional pump probe schemes, for example, the femtosecond optical laser probe pulse with ultrashort soft x-ray probe pulses with control on the polarization, such those generated by FERMI.
In this case the probe will be element-specific allowing to carry out core level resonant measurements, such as x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and resonant inelastic x- ray scattering (RIXS).

The Magnedyn initiative is a joint collaboration between Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and CNR-IOM. MagneDyn is funded by the EU FP7 PASTRY project, the EuroFEL initiative and Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste.
