CONFIGURING THE DATA ACQUISITION COMPUTER (with Windows XP)
- The Umeasure save path is set in the config files of Umeasure. By convention, the data are saved to the drive "D:\data" on PnanoX (X=1,2,...n), which is shared. In order to configure the sharing properites of "D:\data", log on PnanoX as Administrator. The "network access sharing and security model for local acconts" variable has to be set to "classic". You can set the sharing properties using the Computer mangment program in the administrative tools. In "System Tools", select Shared Folders and click "Shares". Then, using the "actions" menu, click "new" → "file share" and follow the instructions. Set the access properties according to the privileges you want to give to the users (i.e nanouser). To avois unwanted deletion of the data, it is strongly advised to allow access to the data only by "read".
- The firewall has to be configured in a way that only few "trusted" computers can log on. In order to do this choose "Network connections" in the Control Panel, click on "Local Area Connection" properties and select "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" and go to the "advanced" tab. Choose the "Windows Firewall Exceptions" and select the "file and printer sharing" checkbox. By double clicking on it you will edit the services and for each port you have to enter the following "custom" list (e.g. TCP 139, TCP 445, etc):
- Enter "140.105.8.0/255.255.255.0,192.168.0.0/255.255.0.0",
if you want the two Elettra subnetworks to access the computer shares.
- Otherwise, eneter a list of the IP numbers corresponding to the computers allowed to log on. The IP numbers can be obtained using the "nslookup" program from the command prompt. For example, "nslookup pnano3" will give: 192.168.201.37. In a similar way:
192.168.211.26,192.168.201.37,140.105.8.200,192.168.201.107,192.168.101.216,
192.168.201.69,140.105.8.25, corresponds to the pnanoX computers plus Andrea and Onur machines
- BCSjava, GUI, leem2000 folders have to be shared between
Administrator and nanouser, so that the latter can write onto these folders and use the programs for data acquisition. This is necessary in order to allow the user to save the LEEM settings and the nameserver, to update the log files. When you set the sharing properties for theese folders, the name of the share has to be followed by the "$" character, in order to hyde (and protect!) the folder contents from the other computers in the network.
- The PCO board model PCO PCI Interface board 520/525 request no IRQ sharing, otherwise it not it will not work. You can easily find out whether there is a conflict, by going to the control panel → System → hardware → Device Manager and select "view resources" by "type". If you click onto "interrupt request", the resources are listed as a function of their IRQs.
-
On Pnano5 the NI PCI-232/2 (National Instruments) board is used for controlling the parallel ports (e.g. COM3 anmd COM4). Its drivers can be found on the NI website, in serial communications
(you need to download NISER180.exe).
