Soft X-ray Optics Laboratory
The Soft X-ray Optics Group of ELETTRA is involved in the metrology measurement of X-ray mirrors, gratings and high precision optical elements.
The group is also involved in the design, assembly, alignment and characterisation of the Soft X-ray beamlines and related optical devices at ELETTRA. It is part of the Optics Area of the Sincrotrone Trieste together with the Hard X-ray Optics group.
In the following pages you will find several information mostly related to the metrological part of our job.
Activities
- optical design, conceptual design, specifications and commissioning of Soft X-ray beamlines;
- analysis of surface slope errors of large (up to 1.5 m length) optical components;
- analysis of surface topology (roughness) of optical components with 0.1 nm height resolution and 500 nm lateral resolution;
- check of planarity of optical surfaces with l/20 accuracy;
- measurements of groove density and d-spacing variation on surface diffraction gratings.
