European FEL at ELETTRA

                                   Lasing below 190 nm !!!

February 6, 2001, 2:48 a.m.: the European Storage Ring FEL Project at ELETTRA
succeeded in lasing at 190 nm, representing a new world record for the shortest
wavelength of a free-electron laser oscillator. The tuning range was at least 189.7-200.3 nm.
The maximum extracted power was of the order 10 mW. The minimum linewidth was 3 10^-4.
