Submission: Contributions must be submitted in triplicate preferable at the conference but not later than July 1st, 2002 to:

Preparation of manuscripts: Manuscripts should be printed throughout with double line spacing and wide margins on numbered, single-column pages.

Title page(s) should contain the reference number as mentioned in the book of abstracts, the title, authors' names and affiliations, the abstract, PACS codes and keywords, and the text of any related footnotes. The author to whom proofs should be sent must be indicated with his/her full postal address, fax number, telephone number and/or e-mail address.

Tables should be printed on separate sheets at the end of the manuscript, be numbered and have a sufficiently detailed caption.

Figures should be numbered and their captions listed together at the end of the manuscript.

References in the text to other publications should be numbered consecutively, e.g. [1], [2,3], [4 B6], etc., and listed together at the end of the text, e.g.

Preparation of figures: Electronic files of figures can be submitted, but the publisher requires in all cases also a set of good quality hardcopies to produce the printed figures.

Line figures are preferably reduced to single-column width (~7.6 cm). Submitted drawings should be 1.5-3 times larger than the printed size; the height of letters and numbers should, after reduction, fall within the range 1.2-2.4 mm. Do not use too narrow pen widths for machine-plotted graphs. Shaded areas should be shown by means of cross-hatching or a matrix of dots, rather than a continuous grey wash.

Photographs should not already be screened (overprinted with the point matrix used by printers). The top side of a photograph should be marked if necessary.

Colour figures can be printed in colour when this is essential to the presentation. Authors will be charged for colour reproduction. Further information can be obtained from the publisher.

 
Length of the printed paper: Invited papers max. 10 printed pages

Contributed papers max. 5 printed pages

• An average article opening (title up to and including the abstract) is 1/2 a page (depending of course on the number of authors and affiliations. Approx. 5 authors per line and 1 line for each affiliation). Examples can be found in the journal.
• A journal page with only typeset text contains about 750 words (or about 4500 characters including blanks).
• A 1-column figure takes up about 1/5 page, a 2-column figure about half a page.
• A 1-column table takes up about 1/5 page, a 2-column table takes up about half a page (depending of course on the number of entries).
• A 1-line free-standing equation is equivalent to about 30 words (or about 180 characters).
• The space taken up by a figure can be estimated by reducing its size to the width of 1 column (7.5 cm) and then see if the figure is still legible. If not, the legends to the axes and the lettering should be enlarged, so the figure still fits in 1 column. If this is not possible the figure should be placed in two columns (maximum width 16 cm).

We recommend you to take a look at the journal, since this will give the best "feel" regarding the layout of the title page, figures and tables.
