These are the ELETTRA local pages for the TANGO control system. There is an official website for the project reachable at the following URL: http://www.tango-controls.org/.

TANGO is an object oriented distributed control system based on CORBA, born at ESRF and being actively developed as a collaborative effort among four Institutes: ESRF, SOLEIL, ALBA and ELETTRA.

The object model in TANGO supports methods, attributes and properties. In TANGO all objects are representations of devices. The devices can be on the same computer or distributed over a number of computers interconnected by a network. The network communication is done using CORBA. Communication can be synchronous, asynchronous or event driven. Permanent data is stored in a database.

Programming support is provided for C++, Java and Python. Clients can be written in all three languages. Servers can be written in C++ and Java. TANGO provides an API which hides all the details of network access and provides object browsing, discovery and security features.

Graphical tools are provided for developing TANGO classes and clients.

Tango runs on Linux, Solaris, HP-UX and Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP.
