We are pleased to announce the 6th Microbunching Instability Workshop organized by Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste (http://www.elettra.eu/) under the FELS OF EUROPE collaboration (http://www.fels-of-europe.eu/), and to take place at the Savoia Excelsior Palace hotel, Trieste, Italy, from 6th to 8th of October 2014.
As emphasized during the last workshops (Trieste, 2007; Berkeley, 2008; Frascati, 2010; College Park, 2012; Pohang, 2013), the microbunching instability is a critical issue to deliver a high brightness electron beam for X-ray FELs. Clear evidence of microbunching in high brightness electron beams to be used for FEL applications has been gathered at several laboratories. If left uncontrolled, the strong microbunching may degrade the electron beam quality and subsequent FEL output, and pose serious challenges to beam diagnostics. We hope this workshop will review this rapidly growing topic for a step toward higher performance X-ray FELs. This workshop aims to discuss recent experimental observations, theoretical understanding, numerical modeling, and improved diagnostics.
For those who are interested, a visit to the FERMI facility, which is scheduled to be in shut-down during the Workshop, is also planned.
Trieste is located in northeastern part of Italy on the Adriatic Sea. Due to its history, Trieste is a city unique in its kind and a fascinating place to visit. Science and scientific research has always played a key role in Trieste and this has led, through the years, to the creation of several organizations dedicated to foster science and scientific research.
We reserved a limited number of rooms with special prize at the Savoia hotel where the workshop takes place, see the Accommodation tab in this website. We would like to encourage you to register and book accommodation as soon as possible, due to the occurrence of another international event in Trieste, Barcolana 2014, http://www.barcolana.it/. Ultimate deadline for book reservation at the Savoia hotel is on 15th of July, 2014.
More information on the Savoia hotel can be found at the hotel’s official website: http://savoiaexcelsiorpalace.starhotels.com/it/home.aspx.
A list of alternatives for lodging in the downtown area is given in the Workshop website.
Please, do not hesitate to contact us further at firstname.lastname@example.org for any additional information you may need. We look forward to seeing you in Trieste. Sincerely,
Simone Di Mitri and Luca Giannessi (Workshop Co-Chairs),
