George "Georgios" Kourousias is a computational mathematician (Erdős no.4) working in the Scientific Computing team of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste as a researcher since 2008.

He has been the Principal Investigator of 12 beamtime experiments in X-ray microscopy and has participated in over 60.

His current research interests include X-ray microscopy, Quantum Computing, X-ray Fluorescence, spectroscopic X-ray imaging, CDI/Ptychography, Compressive Sensing, algorithms and Data Science topics including Neural Networks. He has more than 80 publications in international peer reviewed journals including a highly-cited international patent on image compression.

George has participated in many multi-million euro EU projects at leading roles on data management and policy issues. He also leads AI3, an Elettra project, where he supervises PhD students on topics related to imaging, data processing and Artificial Intelligence. George has been involved in University teaching and consultancy for the private sector. He has an academic interest in Technological singularity topics and Strong AI. He is in the founding and leadership team of the Trieste Chapter of Singularity University.

For the past 5 years, as side project he is actively researching topics on theory and applications of Quantum Computing and its potential applications in scientific computing and synchrotron radiation facilities & FELs. After his prior doctoral and postdoctoral studies, George recently joined University of Trieste as a PhD canditate in the topic of quantum computing for synchrotron x-ray imaging and spectroscopy. He also started exploring quantum optimisation for battery research. George is a member of Trieste Quantum while he is lobbying for setting up Elettra x Quantum (ExQ).

In his spare time, he volunteers for a non-profit association for Glioblastoma patients and related research glioblastomamultiforme.it ODV. There he led the design and development of an AI system (rnm.ai) for automated segmentation of MRI data.
