Scope

Thanks to the great advancements during the last two decades THz spectroscopy is now widely employed in several fields of science and technology, ranging from solid-state-physics to biology, medicine, industrial production and homeland security. A new frontier in THz science is now represented by the possibility to produce ultra-short, coherent, intense pulses suitable to manipulate and control material’s properties. To this aim, one needs THz pulse energies from the micro- to the milli-Joule range and electric field peak values, beyond 100 kV/cm. The availability of THz pulses with such properties at 3rd and 4th generation light sources is therefore highly requested by the scientific community. Scope of the Workshop is to discuss possible initiatives concerning future THz developments involving the new FERMI@Elettra seeded free-electron laser source and the recently upgraded Elettra third generation synchrotron radiation source.
