Elettra is an international multidisciplinary laboratory operated by Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A. as a user facility, featuring a 2.4 GeV, third-generation synchrotron light source and a variety of support laboratories. The extremely high quality of the machine and beamlines has set new performance records and has been producing results of great scientific interest. Job Description: The selected candidate will lead the cryogenic engineering efforts of the Laboratory. His/her responsibilities will include developing and operating an integrated cryogenic system for the Superconducting Third Harmonic Cavity (3HC) and the new Superconducting Wiggler (SCW) at Elettra. The existing 3HC cooling system consists of a helium closed-cycle refrigerator/liquefier that will have to be adapted/developed to satisfy the additional cooling requirements of the SCW. Other major responsibilities will include reviewing and updating design specifications, develop layout drawings and installation plans, costs estimate and schedule, evaluate procurement proposals and systems maintenance for cryogenic plants.

Qualifications: An advanced degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience are required. Documented experience in mechanical system specifications, drawing standards and engineering codes is expected. Work experience and/or demonstrated knowledge in the design of cryogenic systems is essential. Good communication skills and ability to work closely with a diverse group of scientists and engineers are expected. Knowledge of RF and vacuum systems of particle accelerators or synchrotron light source facilities would be considered a plus.

Good oral and written communication skills in English are essential. A working knowledge of the Italian language is required.
