Staff Scientist Position Spectromicroscopy Beamline at Elettra
Ref. E/11/08
Elettra is an international multidisciplinary laboratory operated by Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A. as a user facility, featuring a 2.4 GeV, third-generation synchrotron light source and a variety of support laboratories. The extremely high quality of the machine and beamlines has set new performance records and has been producing results of great scientific interest. A free-electron laser (FEL) based, fourth generation source - FERMI@Elettra - is currently under construction. See http://www.elettra.trieste.it/FERMI/ for more information.
Elettra has very extensive programs in the field of microscopy operating several VUV/x-ray microscopy beamlines. The Spectromicroscopy beamline operates in the 20-300 eV photon energy range and hosts a low photon energy, scanning angle-resolved photoemission microscope. Research focuses on the study of the electronic structure of materials on the submicron scale in different fields, including materials science and solid state physics.
Job Description: We seek an experienced scientist who will contribute to the operation, optimisation, maintenance and upgrade of the Spectromicroscopy beamline and experimental station in order to meet the requirements of a broad user community. The successful candidate is expected to pursue collaborative research programs in a team-oriented environment, become involved in existing research collaborations and provide high-quality support to external users. He/she is also expected to be involved in generating proposals to suitable funding agencies and establish new research collaborations. |
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Physics or related field is required. Proven experience and a suitable publication record in synchrotron radiation photoemission and/or microscopy is required. Knowledge of angle-resolved photoemission is highly desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential, together with ability to work productively in a team. A working knowledge of the Italian language is highly desirable; knowledge of other languages is an asset.
