Meaning of the quantities plotted in the graphs

MEASURED DOSE / ESTIMATED DOSE (graph on the left)

  • “Measured dose” (yellow bars) is the dose integrated by the gamma radiation monitor on periods of 4 hours (from 0.00 to 4.00, from 4.00 to 8.00, from 8.00 to 12.00, from 12.00 to 16.00, from 16.00 to 20.00, from 20.00 to 24.00). It is updated minute by minute and includes natural background radiation (about 0.001 µSv/minute). After each 4 hour-period, values are reset and re-initialized. If the dose limit of 2 µSv in 4 hours is exceeded:
  1.  the beamline's beamstoppers are closed by the safety system and cannot be opened till the end of the 4-hour period
  2.  access to the hutches is interdicted till the end of the 4-hour period.
  • "Estimated dose" (grey bars) is the dose expected at the end of the current 4-hour period on the basis of the dose measured till now.

MEASURED DOSE RATE (graph on the right)

"Measured dose rate" (blue bars) is the amount of dose absorbed per unit of time (minute). It is updated minute by minute and includes natural background radiation (about 10-3 µSv/minute).
