THE FESTIVAL: 900 VISITORS

  • 19 guided tours among the beamlines to discover how synchrotron light is generated and employed;
  • 6 creative workshops for 150 children aged 5 to 10.
  • 6 “short talks" about light: a series of informal presentations to look further into a number of peculiar topics ranging from the X-ray study of proteins to the industrial application of synchrotron light.
The Festival of Light is part of the programs organized within the International Year of Light: a global iniziative proclaimed by UNESCO aiming at raising global awareness about how light-based technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health.

CREATIVE WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN

Elettra’s engineers and researchers disguised as weird characters carried out “At lightning speed”: creative workshops that captured the attention of children aged 5 to 10. Frozen popcorns, balloons and coloured pipes were used to highlight how the synchrotron works and the basics of physics experiments.
