LAAMP

(LAAMP brochure cover)

LAAMP is an IUPAP-IUCr (International Union of Pure and Applied Physics – International Union of Crystallography) project approved and funded under the 2016-2019 International Council for Science (ICSU) Grants Programme. LAAMP is supported by a network of 26 partner institutions and Advanced Light Sources (AdLS), among which Elettra.

Through this project, entitled in full "Utilisation of Light Source and Crystallographic Sciences to Facilitate the Enhancement of Knowledge and Improve the Economic and Social Conditions in Targeted Regions of the World", ICSU partners with IUPAP and IUCr to enhance AdLS and crystallographic sciences in Africa, the Middle East, Mexico and Caribbean.
By enhancing AdLS and crystallographic sciences, the regions' peoples will benefit from the research that will tackle such devastating viruses as Zika, Ebola and HIV. Moreover, considerable progress will be achieved towards sustainable sources of clean energy. Finally, the regions contain important archeological and paleontological treasures to be explored by the beams from AdLSs.

24-page brochure entitled “Advanced Light Sources and Crystallography: Tools of Discovery and Innovation” is available here for downloading. The LAAMP brochure is aimed at explaining light sources and crystallography to a large general audience: the general public, ministers and legislators responsible for funding science and technology facilities, university professors and high school science teachers and their students.
