(Trieste, November 14-15, 2011)

The Abdus Salam ICTP in Trieste hosted the scientific workshop New Frontiers in Atomic, Molecular and Cluster Physics and Chemistry .
World experts and users interested in advanced applications for synchrotron light and light from free-electron lasers (FEL) analyzed the new opportunities brought about by modern accelerator machines in the fields of atomic, molecular physics, and cluster physics. The issues discussed ranged from recent technical advances to advanced applications in a wide variety of fields, such as the interaction of radiation with matter at high intensities and at a temporal resolution of a few tens of femtoseconds (1 fs = 1 millionth of a billionth of a second), and the study of extremely rarefied systems.
At the end of the workshop, Sincrotrone Trieste, the local event organizer, arranged a tour of the Elettra and Fermi labs for the workshop participants.
