8th CW and High Average Power RF Workshop (CWRF2014)

The Eighth CW and High Average Power RF Workshop (CWRF2014), hosted by Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A., was held in Trieste from May 13 to May 16, 2014.

Experienced researchers and engineers in the field of RF high power generation and technology have met in Trieste to discuss the technical challenges coming form the design and operation of existing facilities and new accelerators presently under design.
Radiofrequency systems represent one of the major sub-systems of a particle accelerator and are a fundamental factor for the performance of the machines. In addition they represent one of the major costs both in terms of construction and operation.

The goal of the CWRF workshop series is to share experiences among designers and users of CW and high average power RF systems that utilize high-power klystrons, gridded tubes, combined solid-state architectures, high-voltage power supplies, high-voltage modulators, high-power combiners, circulators, cavities, power couplers and tuners. New ideas for high-power RF system upgrades and novel ways of RF power generation and distribution are also discussed.
The talks of the workshop have provided a rich overview on the state of the art technology developments in the field together with status report from accelerator facilities in Europe, America and Asia.

The Trieste workshop was very successful and it has been the most attended of the series up to now, with 80 participants from 16 countries: roughly 60 % from Europe, 30% from America and 10 % from Asia.
During the workshop a visit to Elettra was organized, to introduce the attendees to the two light sources, and to inform them on the latest news regarding the projects and achievements of facilities. Everybody was greatly impressed by the developments and scientific results of Elettra and FERMI and by the highs standard of the technology adopted.
