Trieste, 22 September 2014

Stefania Giannini, Italian Minister for Education, University and Research, visited the research centre Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste today. Mauro Zambelli, General Coordinator, bid the Minister welcome upon her arrival, after which she was escorted on a guided tour of the research facility: starting from Elettra’s beamlines, through the FERMI experimental hall and tunnel and ending in the control room.

"This visit - declared Stefania Giannini - has given me the opportunity to grasp both the scientific value and the industrial relevance of this great facility that we are all truly proud of. Indeed, the effort made by Italy here in the past few decades deserves our endorsement: Elettra is the result of a targeted investment aiming to capitalize on the geopolitical features of this area, which is a border region by calling".

At the end of her visit, the Minister delivered a speech at the conference “Evolving Landscape of Research Infrastructures in Europe – ELRI”,  promoted by the Italian Presidency of the EU Council on the evolutions of research infrastructures within the European scenario.
