The Italian Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and  the Romanian Horia “Hulubei” National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engeneering (IFIN – NH) signed an agreement to lay down the foundations of their collaborative efforts in the implementation of ELI-NP.

ELI-NP, the Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics, is a research facility under implementation in Bucharest - Magurele  and aims at reaching high photon intensities for new experiments in Nuclear Physics and related areas. Thanks to two large research equipment significantly beyond present-day state-of-the-art, a high power laser system and a high intensity gamma beam system, ELI-NP promises to brake new ground in many areas of science and technology: from laser physics to accelerators and related technical developments, from engineering and material science to astrophysics and medicine.

Signing the Memorandum of Understanding, Elettra and the Horia “Hulubei” National Institute agree to cooperate on research topics relevant for the ELI-NP project, in particular developing its experimental areas and instrumentation, defining its experimental programme and training high-skilled human resources.
ELI – NP is one of the three facilities under implementation that will be part of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI). The ELI project is part of a European plan to build a new generation of large research facilities selected by the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) and is based on strong international collaborations between Czech Republic, Hungary, and Romania.

Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is member of the ELI Delivery Consortium International Association, founded in April 2013 as an international non-profit association under Belgium Law, to promote the sustainable development of ELI.

Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is an international research centre, specializing in the study of materials. Its state-of-the-art research facilities exploit the power of synchrotron light to reveal the structure and the behavior of atoms and molecules with unprecedented detail. Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste offers solutions to research and industry solving challenges in pharmacology, medicine, engineering, nanotechnology, cultural heritage.
