Mikhail Chudakov, the new Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited the research center Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste in AREA Science Park. He was be welcomed by the President Alfonso Franciosi and by a group of scientist that work with synchrotron light.

Chudakov, who joined the IAEA top management on February 2015, has been a guest at the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) of Miramare during these days. This visit represents for him the first opportunity to see the XRF X-ray fluorescence experimental station dedicated to environmental and industrial applications, jointly built and run by Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and IAEA and inaugurated in July 2014.
Next stop was at the free electron laser FERMI located within the same facility: an international success that produced its first light at the end of 2010 and is currently under commissioning.

Elettra and IAEA have been collaborating for several years: the research centre in Trieste was included among the 20 “IAEA Collaborating Centres” for the purpose of supporting the Agency’s activities in disseminating scientific and accelerators technical culture and of promoting synchroton light and free electron laser applications for analysing and exploring the structure of materials.
