This paper presents the first direct experimental evidence for double layer or capacitive charging of carbon nanomaterial-based SCs (Solid Contacts) in all-solid-state polymeric ion sensors. Here, we utilized cutting edge synchrotron radiation surface analysis methods to elucidate the mechanism of charging of SCs in polymeric ion sensors. The high sensitivity of synchrotron radiation surface analysis together with a power for structure elucidation in electrochemically modified polymeric ion sensors has revealed the mechanism of charging of SCs in these important devices.
