Special on COVID-19

In accordance with Circolare 15/2020, all workers operating at the beamline must observe to the following rules:

1. Maintain a safe distance of at least 1m and minimize contact with other persons.
2. Coordinate work in order to reduce contact times. Split the work into shifts or into separate days whenever possible.
3. Always carry a surgical-type mask with you and wear it whenever a distance of at least 1m cannot be maintained.
4. A maximum number of two persons (including, when authorized, external users) may work at each beamline experimental station and in ventilated rooms (experimental hutches, laboratories) without masks as long as a distance of at least 1m can be maintained. Whenever more than two people are needed to perform an experiment, a preliminary authorization should be obtained from the group coordinators.
5. Masks must not be shared. Used surgical-type masks must be discarded in the dedicated bins. Information on bin locations can be found here.
6. Wash hands with soap regularly following the established rules. In addition, hand sanitizer dispensers can be found on site.
7. The equipment shared by multiple persons has to be cleaned with disinfectants before and after each use. Whenever that is not possible, gloves will have to be worn by each researcher.

The beamline personnel is responsible for keeping the work station clean and tidy. The end-station has been equipped with a bottle of Meliseptol disinfectant. A disinfectant (0.1% Sodium hypochlorite solution) will be soon provided by SPP. These products must be used to clean and disinfect the control table, keyboard, mouse, trackball and all other equipment that are frequently used in experiments. Cleaning has to be done before starting a shift as well as when concluding it. It is advised to cover the keyboard with domopak to protect it by contaminations.

The SPP (Servizio Prevenzione e Protezione) can provide all workers on site with a set of 5 surgical-type masks. Additional information can be found here.
 

Work places

A maximum presence of two people is allowed at the beamline. Three different workstations, spaced by more than 3 mt, have been marked with tape, as shown in the pictures hereafter. Workstation one is in front of the control station, the second is in front of the rectangular table close to the electrical panel at the entrance of the beamline, the third is near the circular table close to the Lilit hutch.

Guidelines for the correct use of electrical systems and equipment:

• Respect the safety signs and the respective provisions;
• Make sure that the electrical system or the equipment is equipped with the necessary approvals and certifications, contacting the competent company operating units if necessary;
• Make sure of the location of the electrical panel that powers the area where you operate so that you can promptly disconnect the voltage from the system if necessary;
• Use the electrical systems in accordance with their intended use and the respective user manuals;
• Make sure that the power cables of electrical appliances are adequately protected against mechanical actions (passage of people, sharp objects, etc.), thermal actions (heat sources) or chemical actions (corrosive substances);
• Make sure that the power supply has been disconnected before carrying out any simple operation on the systems (including the replacement of a light bulb) or on the equipment;
• Always make sure that the electrical equipment is disconnected (after activating the appropriate switch) before disconnecting the plug;
• Disconnect the equipment from the energy source before starting periodic cleaning;
• Connect the equipment to the nearest socket avoiding the use of extension cables as much as possible;
• Do not overload the sockets with too many electrical users, always checking that the intensity of total current load does not exceed the limits of the socket itself;
• The multiple adapters allowed by the standards are those with only two lateral sockets. The other type, with a third socket parallel to the pins, is considered dangerous because it allows the chain insertion of multiple multiple sockets;
• German type plugs (Schuko) can be inserted in Italian type sockets only through an adapter that transfers the earth connection made by means of the side plates to a central plug. It is absolutely forbidden to insert Schuko plugs into Italian sockets by force.
• Avoid subjecting all parts of the electrical systems to mechanical or impact actions (passage of trolleys, etc.);
• When using roller extensions must be completely unwound to avoid overheating. The capacity of the wound cable is in fact reduced. The capacity of the cable, which must be indicated, must always be respected;
• Do not pull the power cable to disconnect an electrical appliance from the socket, but use the plug;
• Do not tamper with electrical equipment (for any need, the intervention of qualified personnel according to company procedures must be requested).

Prohibitions to avoid electrical problems:

• Prohibition of tampering with electrical appliances;
• Ban on installing or using private electrical equipment or materials;
• Prohibition to intervene in case of breakdown, improvising electricians and, in particular, on switchboards or electrical cabinets;
• Prohibition to cover or hide the controls and electrical panels with cabinets or other furnishings (allow their inspection and prompt intervention in case of anomalies);
• Prohibition to remove the protection channels of the electric cables;
• Prohibition of overloading power outlets with too many electrical users, using adapters or multiple plugs;
• Prohibition of depositing flammable substances near the appliances;
• Prohibition to deposit containers filled with liquids on the appliances;
• Prohibition of exposing the appliances to excessive radiation or heat sources;
• Prohibition of preventing the correct ventilation of the appliances by covering the ventilation openings;
• Prohibition to touch implants and / or appliances if you have wet hands or shoes;
• Prohibition of touching the shards of fluorescent lamps (neon) with bare hands. Any lesions are difficult to heal;
• Prohibition of using water to extinguish fires of electrical origin.
