carbon RXES

Carbon K-edge resonant x-ray fluorescence map from highly oriented pyrolytic graphite measured at MagneDyn

For incident photon energies near the core binding energy, inelastic x-ray scattering theory predicts a coherent absorption-emission process in which crystal momentum is conserved. Momentum conservation manifests itself as dispersive features in fluorescence spectra. Thus, RXES is an optimal tool to probe the dispersive band structure of a material.
We have recently measured the static band dispersion on an HOPG sample in view of the upcoming pump probe experiments at the carbon K edge.
