High pressure photoelectron spectroscopy: a useful
tool to study heterogeneous catalytic reactions

Abstract
In situ methods are gaining more and more interest in the field of
heterogeneous catalysis. This it due to the fact, that the structure of
a working catalyst might be completely different from the structure of
the same catalyst estimated ex situ. A high pressure XPS system was developed
to study correlation of the electronic structure of an active catalyst
surface to the catalytic activity. This new technique will
be introduced and some examples of investigated systems will be described..
