Evidence of ß-antimonene at the Sb/Bi2Se3 surface

Abstract
In this talk it is reported the study of the interface between antimony and the prototypical topological insulator Bi2Se3. STM measurements show the formation of flat islands reaching coalescence before the second layer starts to form. Atomic resolution images show the presence of ordered domains surrounded by disordered areas. Images recorded at the boundary between bismuth selenide and antimony display a perfect lattice match. The behaviour of the interface as a function of the temperature is also presented. Density functional theory calculations of the most stable atomic configurations show that the ordered domains can be attributed to stacks of ß-antimonene grown on bismuth selenide.
